Fully qualified SAP services up to 33kV for private networks, ICP works, renewables and commercial sites. Experienced in issuing Permits to Work, carrying out isolations and managing switching operations safely — to both DNO and private network safety standards. Based in Kent and working nationwide.

What Our SAP Service Covers

A Senior Authorised Person (SAP) is responsible for issuing safe working documents, managing isolations and ensuring the HV system is in a safe condition before any work begins. Our SAP service provides everything required to manage HV works safely on your network.

  • Issuing Permits to Work (PTW) for HV and LV work in progress
  • Switching and isolation operations — planned and emergency
  • Re-energisation and circuit restoration
  • Live network supervision during HV works
  • Access control and safety documentation
  • Point of Work identification and proving dead
  • HV cable spiking and proving dead before jointing
  • Coordination with DNO/IDNO networks

Where We Provide SAP Services

Our SAP attendance covers a range of site types across private and contestable HV network environments:

  • Private HV networks — industrial sites, commercial developments, business parks
  • Battery storage and solar farm HV systems
  • EV infrastructure installations requiring HV isolation and supervision
  • New ICP connection works — connection day management up to energisation
  • Industrial estates and commercial developments with private 11kV networks
  • IDNO adoption works — taking control of the LV network on connection day

SAP and Jointing in the Same Team

One of the practical advantages of using R&D Cable Jointing is that our SAP and jointing capability sits within the same team. You do not need to coordinate separate contractors for HV isolation and the jointing works — we can provide both, under one programme, with clear accountability. This simplifies programme management and removes the risk of delays caused by SAP non-attendance.

Safety Standards We Work To

Our SAP works to the applicable safety management system for the network in question — whether that is DNO-specific Distribution Safety Rules for contestable connections, a private network operator's own safety rules, or a system aligned to the HSE's guidance on Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.

Areas: Essex, London, Kent, Hertfordshire, Surrey, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and nationwide. Contact us with your switching schedule and site details and we will confirm SAP availability.

Frequently Asked Questions

What areas do you cover?
Based in the South East (Kent), we work nationwide across the UK. We regularly support projects across Essex, London, Kent, Hertfordshire, Surrey, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire, and travel further for larger projects.
What voltages can you work with?
LV, 11kV and 33kV. Our SAP authorisations cover up to 33kV for switching, permits and live working supervision.
What types of cable do you joint?
PILC, XLPE, Waveform and other common LV/HV cable types. If you're unsure whether we can handle your cable type, just ask.
Can you handle full substation installations?
Yes. We handle everything from landing, earthing and fit-out through to testing, commissioning, DNO audit attendance and taking control of the LV network on connection day on behalf of the IDNO.
What's the difference between a jointer and a SAP?
A jointer physically installs and connects cables. A Senior Authorised Person (SAP) issues permits and ensures the system is safe to work on. We provide both in-house.
Can you supply materials or work labour-only?
Both. We're happy to supply jointing kits and accessories, or to work with your own supplied materials — whatever suits the job.
How do I get a quote?
Email info@rdjointing.co.uk with your scope, cable type, voltage and location. We'll come back quickly with availability and a clear plan.
