R&D Cable Jointing provides LV cable jointing for new installations, diversions and repairs across the UK. We support principal contractors, utilities, ICPs and commercial clients with clean workmanship, site-ready delivery, and straightforward coordination. Based in Kent and working nationwide, we regularly support projects across Essex, London, Kent, Hertfordshire, Surrey, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire.

LV Jointing Services

LV works still demand standards similar to HV: correct preparation, controlled build-up, and proper reinstatement. We support programme delivery work as well as urgent repairs once access is available and site controls are in place.

  • LV mains jointing — new installs and diversions
  • LV service jointing and cable repairs
  • LV cable terminations and cutout connections
  • MSDB (Main Service Distribution Board) installation
  • Lateral cable installation
  • Service and cutout terminations to IDNO specification
  • Cable diversions — planned and reactive
  • Testing and energising

LV Alongside HV

Many projects include LV enabling works alongside 11kV and 33kV activities — LV diversions ahead of HV cable routes, LV terminations at transformer LV connections, or LV STC panel works at substations. Using one contractor for both LV and HV scope reduces delays, simplifies coordination and keeps standards consistent across the job.

  • LV diversions and enabling works for HV routes and substations
  • LV terminations and plant installation alongside substation fit-out
  • LV STC panel installation and commissioning

Who We Work With

  • ICPs and IDNOs — LV mains jointing and service connections to IDNO specification
  • Principal contractors — LV enabling works as part of larger civil or infrastructure programmes
  • Utilities and DNO supply chain — reactive and planned LV jointing
  • Commercial clients — LV diversions and repairs on private networks

Frequently Asked Questions

What areas do you cover?
Based in the South East (Kent), we work nationwide across the UK. We regularly support projects across Essex, London, Kent, Hertfordshire, Surrey, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire, and travel further for larger projects.
What voltages can you work with?
LV, 11kV and 33kV. Our SAP authorisations cover up to 33kV for switching, permits and live working supervision.
What types of cable do you joint?
PILC, XLPE, Waveform and other common LV/HV cable types. If you're unsure whether we can handle your cable type, just ask.
Can you handle full substation installations?
Yes. We handle everything from landing, earthing and fit-out through to testing, commissioning, DNO audit attendance and taking control of the LV network on connection day on behalf of the IDNO.
What's the difference between a jointer and a SAP?
A jointer physically installs and connects cables. A Senior Authorised Person (SAP) issues permits and ensures the system is safe to work on. We provide both in-house.
Can you supply materials or work labour-only?
Both. We're happy to supply jointing kits and accessories, or to work with your own supplied materials — whatever suits the job.
How do I get a quote?
Email info@rdjointing.co.uk with your scope, cable type, voltage and location. We'll come back quickly with availability and a clear plan.
